This book is for managers that have limited experience with, or limited knowledge of, Scrum and Agile Methodologies. It will describe Scrum techniques and extend that theoretical view by providing tips and tricks from our experience. Once you have read this book we recommend reading the second book, in the ‘Manager’s Playbook to Creating Organisational Agility’ collection, which covers how to achieve Organisational Agility (OA) by adopting the OA Framework. This book (Book 1 in the collection) is classed as a ‘Manager’s Foundation to Agile, Scrum, DevOps and BizOps’, and will help you understand the difference between ‘Agile Development’ and ‘Organisational Agility’. This book is targeted at managers of teams and will provide a high-level overview of the Agile frameworks and describe the most popular improvement framework (Scrum) but will not go into the lowest level of detail about each methodology. Considering everything else, this book will help you understand and achieve on the promise of delivering value to your ultimate stakeholders in an iterative manner. This book is the first in a collection of books about creating Organisational Agility. Its main purpose is to provide context around Scrum and Agile Methodologies so that you are able to grasp and appreciate the concepts that are covered in subsequent books. Many of the concepts in this book have been covered by other authors and we are not stating that the concepts in this book are new or provide different viewpoints, but our goal was to provide a collection of books that enable all managers, at different stages of their Organisational Agility adoption, to have a consistent reading experience. There are thousands of books on Scrum and Agile, and we have recommended a number of these throughout this book. We believe the most value comes in the second book which is the Manager’s Playbook to Creating Organisational Agility (as it includes the key plays). The third book focuses on tooling and continuous improvement of the Organisational Agility Framework.
